Minister Chheang Ra Highlights Investment in Child Healthcare at 6th Medical Conference

Phnom Penh: On the morning of October 18, 2024, Prof. Chheang Ra, Minister of Health, presided over the opening ceremony of the 6th Infant and Child Medical Conference, themed Investing to Increase the Capacity and Quality of Infant Care and Children.

During his address, Minister Chheang Ra emphasized the importance of prioritizing investments in healthcare to enhance the capabilities and quality of neonatal and pediatric care. He underscored the commitment to improving care standards, ensuring safety, and fostering public confidence in healthcare services.

"The success of our healthcare system lies in our ability to identify priorities and transform challenges into opportunities," he stated. "In our breath, we must find priorities and create opportunities aligned with the circumstances of both the public and private sectors."

The conference aims to showcase the collective willingness to invest time, knowledge, and skills into developing high-quality care for infants and children. Minister Chheang Ra highlighted the crucial role of effective management and leadership in mobilizing resources and encouraging healthcare professionals to dedicate themselves to enhancing their organizations.

He urged health officials at all levels to strengthen their capacity, emphasizing that healthcare services should be accessible and responsive 24/7 to meet the needs of the population. "Doctors are the army in white and perform the duties of angels," he remarked, reinforcing the vital role of healthcare workers in society.

In his recommendations, the Minister outlined key priorities for the conference, including:

- Identifying and harnessing opportunities for innovation in healthcare with precision.

- Expanding pediatric emergency departments within both public and private sectors, ensuring timely decisions regarding the transfer and treatment of infants.

- Enhancing patient care through compassionate communication and adherence to professional ethical standards.

- Encouraging local leaders to prepare detailed reports for evaluating service delivery effectiveness.

- Focusing on the challenges faced by specialized infant and children’s hospitals, particularly regarding human resources and medical facilities.

Minister Chheang Ra also stressed the need for a long-term vision in training healthcare professionals in infant rescue and social medicine, ensuring that newborns receive optimal care from the start.
